Stars Of Service Awards
Do you know a volunteer that has improved the quality of life for Elk Grove residents? Worked tirelessly volunteering for our community? The Elk Grove City Council invites you to nominate a deserving candidate for this year's Stars of Service.
These awards are designed to recognize volunteers who have made a significant impact on the quality of life in Elk Grove.
Accessibility Above and Beyond Awards
The Accessibility Award was created in 2007 by the City of Elk Grove's Disability Advisory Committee to recognize individuals, businesses or organizations that go above and beyond for individuals with disabilities in our community. The Award is presented by the Elk Grove City Council during the month of October, which is Disability Awareness month. Make your nomination today! Describe why and how the business, organization or individual goes "Above and Beyond" to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in Elk Grove.
Military Street Banner Program
The City of Elk Grove and its residents have a long-standing and high regard for those who serve, or have served, in the military. There are an estimated 9,000 veterans who reside in Elk Grove. The Elk Grove City Council approved the creation of a Military Street Banner Program in December 2015 to honor those residents who served in the United States Armed Forces and to promote civic pride.
Veteran And Public Safety Street Naming Program
The City of Elk Grove's Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program is currently accepting nominations of exemplary individuals for possible future street name use. The Program was created to recognize the number of individuals who have served our community and country. By naming a city street in their honor, we hope to promote public awareness of the individual and show our appreciation for their outstanding contributions.
Do you know your city?
The Elk Grove City Council establishes the policies that guide business at City Hall. The Council is made up of five representatives: the mayor, and four city council members. The Mayor serves a two-year term; the other council members serve staggered four-year terms. City Council members reside in four different districts, elected by voters of their district alone. We vote for our Mayor, every two years in November, and each resident votes for their council member district representative once every four years.
Elk Grove's City Manager is the liaison between the City Council, the community, and City departments. The City Manager is hired by the City Council to carry out the direction and initiatives provided by the City Council and manage the daily operations at City Hall.
Funding for many City services come from local property and sales taxes. Other fees and taxes, such as State Gas Tax, provide special funds for dedicated services.
