We recognize the challenge of finding affordably priced housing opportunities. The purpose of this site is to serve as a resource to the community, providing information on affordable housing for rent located within our city.
The complexes listed maintain a certain percentage of rental units at affordable rates for occupancy by low-income families. Contact each complex directly for up-to-date vacancy and rental information.
Homeownership Programs
Looking to buy a house? The City has several programs to minimize the barriers for homebuyers, including downpayment assistance and deed-restricted, for-sale housing. Find the program that is right for you.
Affordable Housing Projects
Affordable Housing Development
Elk Grove recognizes the need to create housing units that are affordable to individuals and families of various income levels. As of late 2025, the City has invested $84 million in 2,400 affordable housing units in different multifamily developments and remains a desirable place to build affordable housing. When funding is available, the City will issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit new development proposals.
Housing Choice Vouchers
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides assistance to very low-income individuals and families to enable them to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. The HCV program is operated by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA). You can find more information by calling SHRA at 916-440-1390 or visiting their website. SHRA manages several wait lists, which open and close based on availably and other factors. For current information on status of open and closed wait lists, please refer to www.sacwaitlist.com.
If you are moving to Elk Grove and have a voucher from another public housing agency, you may port in your voucher. Contact SHRA for details.
