In anticipation of temperatures topping the century mark, the City of Elk Grove and Cosumnes Community Services District will open a cooling center on Thursday, August 21. The center will operate from 1 to 8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, August 22 at the Wackford Community Complex at 9014 Bruceville Road. Operating dates may be extended if similar conditions persist.
Organizers are initiating the opening of the cooling center in response to excessive heat forecasted for the region by the National Weather Service Sacramento. The Cooling Center is open to anyone who lacks shelter or adequate home cooling. A limited number of animal kennels will be available to house pets.
Hot days pose a danger of heat related illness for anyone outside for an extended time. People of all ages are encouraged to take the following precautions:
Avoid outdoor activities in the direct sun from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and
