This 14-week program provides interns with a unique opportunity to learn about EGPD from the inside out.
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Work side-by-side with law enforcement professionals
- Be a part of a team providing cutting-edge services to Elk Grove residents
- Build relationships with interns in other departments
- Meet with EGPD leadership
- Identify an area of interest and a pathway to success in that field
Interns Will Work In One Of The Following Departments
Community Resources Bureau (CRB)
Interns will experience a rotation through different roles within the CRB team. Interns will have the chance to shadow various personnel, including our Homeless Outreach Team, Problem Oriented Policing (POP), Crisis Intervention Response Team, School Resource Officers, or civilian staff member, allowing them to gain insight into a range of tasks and response scenarios.
Although it is difficult to forecast specific assignments, the primary objective is to provide interns with exposure to youth intervention, community issues, the deployment of mental health resources, outreach to the unhoused, and responses to felony, misdemeanor, and Elk Grove Municipal Code incidents. Additionally, interns will participate in criminal interviews and assist the CRB during community events. They will engage in nearly all aspects of the CRB team's operations.
The Ideal Candidate Is:
- Passionate about public safety
- Interested in learning about the City of Elk Grove
- Available 16-24 hours per week, Monday-Friday during normal business hours
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must complete an interview and pass a background check
