Elk Grove Animal Services offers high quality, low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to dogs and cats of Elk Grove residents. The program is available to all residents, with an additional 40% discount offered to seniors (65+) and income-restricted residents who participate in the Cal Fresh/EBT/SNAP benefits, Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR) by SMUD or the Energy Savings Program (ESA) by PG&E. A copy of a current utility bill with your name and address must be provided to receive the discount.
Who Can Participate?
- Pets and owners must reside in Elk Grove.
- Dogs and cats must be at least three months old and weigh at least three pounds.
- Dogs must be 6 years and younger.
Pricing
Below are the prices and fees for our services. Please note that additional services are only available with a surgical appointment. When you schedule an appointment, you will receive an estimate for the services. Please note that dog surgical prices are based on weight, please be sure to select your pet’s weight range from the list of services to obtain an accurate estimate. Additional fees may apply based on findings during surgery (i.e., cryptorchid, pregnant or in heat).
Payment for licensing is required before your appointment. This can be done online or at the Animal Shelter during regular business hours. Licensing fees are non-refundable.
Post-operative pain medication and an e-collar are included for every pet in the cost of the surgery.

How to Request an Appointment
For Cat Owners
Spay and neuter appointments are available to all cat owners who live within the City of Elk Grove.
For Dog Owners
Dog Eligibility Requirements
- Dogs must be 6 years of age or younger
- Dogs must weigh between 5 to 100 pounds
- Brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds may require a pre-operative exam to determine eligibility at no additional cost to you.
Please provide documentation showing your name and address, along with a valid photo ID.

If you are enrolled in one of the following programs, you may qualify for a discount on surgery fees:

If your pet experiences any complications after their surgery please call (916) 687-3042 to schedule a free re-check appointment. There may be a small charge if your pet requires an additional prescription.
